AGA Marvel Featured on NBC Show

Blog Post: AGA Marvel surprises New Jersey family with a full suite of high-end kitchen appliances on NBC’s George to the Rescue By Leah Kalemba
Published by AGA, September 9, 2016

aga-nbc-showFour years ago, doctors delivered news that would forever change Donna Myhre’s life: first, a shocking diagnosis with ALS, a degenerative neuromuscular disease that gradually impairs motor skills and speech. And then there was more. The sixth-grade math teacher was also pregnant with her first child.

As she welcomed motherhood facing considerable challenges, Donna continued teaching and inspiring her students, and her benevolent efforts did not go unnoticed in the community.  Two school colleagues approached George Oliphant, host of NBC’s George to the Rescue, in hopes he would take on the renovation project to make Donna’s life at home easier and more enjoyable. Deeply moved by Donna’s story, George surprised her family and announced his next project was their home.

What the family did not know is that George and his rescue team decided to tackle bonus renovations, including her 3-year-old daughter’s bedroom and the aging kitchen.

apro30agss-30-aga-pro-gas-range-w-rapidbake-convection-2The show’s designer, Tyler Wisler, called on AGA Marvel in search of top-of-the-line appliances that packed a punch on performance, features and good looks, but could slide in a standard 30″ range footprint. The luxury appliance manufacturer joined “Team Myhracle” in earnest, donating a full suite of products, including the company’s newest 30″ professional range, to help transform her kitchen into a welcome place for her family to gather and enjoy good meals for years to come.

“It takes a village, and this is the village that helped rescue her house,” said George, the show’s host. “We knew we were at the right house since day one.”

A Sizzling Summer Evening

Event review: NKBA SoCal Chapter Meeting hosted by Mode Distributing
Event Date: August 16, 2016
Event Sponsors: Mode Distributing, Caliber Appliances, Vent-A-Hood, EuroChef, AGA Marvel

img_1169In August, Mode Distributing hosted the NKBA SoCal Chapter meeting. The evening was filled with live music, hand served hors d’oeuvres, mouth watering BBQ, and an enlightening discussion on kitchen ventilation.

Held in an outdoor venue, the event began with The Icy Hot Club, a band consisting of two acoustic guitarists, an upright bass player, and a clarinetist to set the mood with some 1930’s jazz as guests enjoyed drinks at the bar.

img_1147Next, tray passed hors d’oeuvres from California Fresh Catering were served. On the menu… tandoori chicken skewers, bacon wrapped blue cheese stuffed dates, croustade with blue cheese olive tapenade, mini crab cakes with a rémoulade dijon tart, golden puff pastry with prosciutto, gruyere and country mustard, sesame soy ahi on a crispy wonton chip, and a mini beef wellington that sent everyone’s taste buds into a frenzy. Behind the scenes, Chef Erick was on site to make sure that every single hors d’oeuvre was on par for the guests. For more information on California Fresh Catering, click here.

The band then proceeded to raise the entertainment bar by singing familiar hits like Summertime, Blue Skies, and Ain’t No Sunshine. Based in Los Angeles, the band’s repertoire consists of modernized Gypsy Jazz in the style of Django Reinhardt, both instrumental and with 3-part vocal harmonies. For more info on The Icy Hot Club, click here.

As the music, engaging conversation, and exquisite libations from the open bar continued, Executive Vice President of Caliber Appliances, Dan Nichols, treated guests to some mouth watering rib eye steaks and delicious grilled zucchini grilled on site with the Caliber Pro Kamado™ Grill/Smoker. To download Caliber’s Rib Eye Steak recipe, click here. For more information on the Caliber Pro Kamado™ Grill/Smoker, click here.

Following the outdoor mixer, guests were invited into Mode Distributing’s new showroom for the remainder of the evening. With over 35 premium kitchen appliances on display, guests were treated to a plethora of luxury products ranging from kitchen hoods, outdoor grills, refrigerators, and more.

img_1181Inside, guests were treated to a CEU presentation on the fundamentals of kitchen ventilation by industry expert, Rudy Rodriguez. Rudy has been educating kitchen designers, cabinet makers, and appliance retailers on ventilation for over 13 years. With his unique experience with the mechanics of air-flow and filtration, he brought a highly desired understanding of the latest ventilation advancements for today’s demanding cooking surfaces.

The presentation effectively illustrated how proper ventilation can combat against grease and other cooking contaminants that build up on walls, cabinets, and furniture. These contaminants can affect the air you breath and the food you eat. For more info on cooking ventilation, click here.

After the presentation, Mode Distributing treated guests to gift bags and a raffle with prizes graciously provided by Vent-A-Hood, Caliber Appliance, EuroChef, and AGA Marvel. For more information on these brands, click here.

Verona Range Featured in Professional Builder Magazine

Excerpt From: New Designs For Building Homes Within Reach By Amy Albert, Editor-in-Chief
Published By Professional Builder, August Edition, 2016

1212212112In the debate about how best to deliver new homes to buyers who are just starting out or just moving up, the question of attainability tends to get lost. It’s an issue that expands beyond one generation to what may be one of the most pressing questions in our industry. In its most recent “The State of the Nation’s Housing” report, released in June, The Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University confirmed that while income growth and demand for new homes are on the rise, so are income inequality and rent burden. The report maintains that efforts to provide affordable housing aren’t coming close to meeting the need, with far-reaching and dire long-term consequences. As a result, providing buildable, profitable, and affordable new homes is seen by many builders as beyond their grasp at best and at worst, too labor-intensive to make sense.

However, new prototypes are challenging that idea, merging time-honored configurations with up-to-date materials and contemporary design.

1458593290-timbercraft-tiny-home-2The tiny house movement, with its promise of a lightened financial burden and less material encumbrance, has captured the country’s imagination. The 100-to-300-square-foot homes we see in shelter magazines and on design blogs are fun, but their diminutive size makes them unrealistic for many potential homebuyers. The question remains: How to create new homes that are both profitable for builders and within reach for those with modest incomes?

For a long time, the answer lay in the attached townhome, with its lower costs for buyers and better margins for builders. Another solution lies in density. After considerable market research, the development team at KTGY asked: Instead of building 1,600-to-2,100-square-foot homes at five or 10 to the acre, why not build sized-down, single-family detached homes at 10 or more to the acre, ranging from 1,000 to 1,600 square feet and which hold great potential appeal for first-time buyers—an underserved market, to say the least. The homes in turn help create a niche and could help keep builders from losing market share to the resale market.

screen-shot-2016-07-28-at-1-15-43-pmBuilding at density isn’t a new idea. One of the most popular examples, the bungalow court, is thought to have originated in Pasadena, Calif., just after the turn of the 20th century. Soon after, neighborhoods built during the 1920s and 1930s throughout the country followed suit, fitting well within the range of eight to 10 units per acre. Among the various configurations were green courts, auto courts, and alley-loaded garages.

verona-24-range-electricverona-24-range-gasIn compact homes, every inch counts. Increasingly, manufacturers are on the trend, bringing out appliances and fittings that are scaled down, great looking, and hard-working. Fridges, wall ovens, and ranges that measure 24 inches in width, an 18-inch dishwasher, a 4-by-4-foot soaking tub, a 23-by-18-inch freestanding sink vanity, and an elongated toilet use small scale to big advantage.

One manufacturer that is stepping up to the challenge is Verona.

With all the power of a full size professional range, Verona offers a 24 inch gas or electric range that packs a punch for a small space kitchen. The 24 inch gas range provides a versatile selection of both high and low power sealed burners and a turbo electric convection fan that will evenly bake foods up to 25 percent faster than a conventional oven. The 24 inch self cleaning electric range is equipped with four flexible power vitro ceramic elements and a convection oven that takes on the most demanding baking and broiling tasks.
