Color Is The New Stainless

Article: Bringing Color into the Modern Kitchen By Wendy Helfenbaum
Published By Metropolis Magazine, September 18, 2017

No longer a modernist faux pas, color and decoration are adding sophisticated style to today’s kitchens. After decades of clinging to monochrome and stainless steel as the standard finishes in contemporary kitchens, it’s time for a bold injection of color. And with the kitchen increasingly an opportunity for showcase and entertaining, the once humble and utilitarian range is stepping into the spotlight with an expanded palette of finishes and a chef’s dream set of features.

Since launching its premium residential and commercial ovens and cooktops in 1952, the Italian manufacturer ILVE has become synonymous with timeless beauty, exceptional functionality, and technical innovation. Handcrafted with precision near Venice, each range represents a culinary objet d’art, ideal for those who are as passionate about design as they are about cooking.

New options including color, finishes, and modern details allow ILVE’s classic motifs to integrate seamlessly into today’s “transitional” kitchen. Designers can now specify every element—from color to cooking method—to create the perfect focal point around which host and guests will be delighted to congregate. Available in either eight standard colors or in more than 200 custom RAL—including Cadium Yellow, Traffic Purple and Cobalt Blue—the Majestic, Nostalgie and Techno collections of ranges are sure to fit into any design scheme.

The Majestic line—available in both dual fuel and all-gas—comes in five sizes from 30”-60”, equipped with single or double ovens. With trim options including brass, copper, oil-rubbed bronze, or chrome and four different leg styles, customization lets these kitchen centerpieces be unique and refined.

Incorporating the same technical features as the Majestic, the Techno Collection also offers modern extras like a tubular style handle, sleek stainless steel knobs, tubular legs, trim-less doors and panels, and an optional upper handrail.

When working with smaller spaces, ILVE’s compact Nostalgie ranges are 24” deep, and available in widths starting at 24”. Featuring a powerful all-gas configuration, the ranges include an upper handrail, digital clock and timer, pre-heat indicator, hearth-shaped window, tubular legs and a storage/warming drawer.

For each product line, a wealth of accessories – including cast iron steak pans, chopping boards, griddle covers, pizza stones and basins for steam cooking – further enable each range to meet any personal taste and cooking style.

ILVE’s latest custom options allow for personalization, making each kitchen unique, whether the design calls for a muted range to blend in with a monochromatic scheme or a spotlight-worthy shade to create a vibrant focal point.

In staying true to its heritage while embracing new design options and technological innovations, ILVE has contemporary solutions for every dream kitchen.

Christina Hendricks and husband Geoffrey Arend recently installed a 30″ Matte Black ILVE range with brass accents into their NYC apartment, acting as a functional centerpiece for the celebrity couple.

“Space is at a premium in our small NYC apartment and unfortunately our kitchen is the size of a coat closet. We needed the power of a professional range and also wanted something beautiful, because whatever was there would always be viewable from the living room. When we found our black and brass ILVE, we knew it was the only stove that would make us both happy. Now anytime we have company, everyone asks about it. It looks dynamic in our Deco kitchen and it never fails to impress while cooking. It’s truly become a centerpiece for not just our kitchen but also our apartment.”‎ – Christina Hendricks and Geoffrey Arend

Christina Hendricks is best known for her role as Joan Holloway in the AMC drama television series Mad Men, for which she was nominated for six Emmy Awards. Her husband, Geoffrey Arend, currently plays speech writer Matt Mahoney on the hit CBS drama Madam Secretary.

Verona Range Featured in Professional Builder Magazine

Excerpt From: New Designs For Building Homes Within Reach By Amy Albert, Editor-in-Chief
Published By Professional Builder, August Edition, 2016

1212212112In the debate about how best to deliver new homes to buyers who are just starting out or just moving up, the question of attainability tends to get lost. It’s an issue that expands beyond one generation to what may be one of the most pressing questions in our industry. In its most recent “The State of the Nation’s Housing” report, released in June, The Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University confirmed that while income growth and demand for new homes are on the rise, so are income inequality and rent burden. The report maintains that efforts to provide affordable housing aren’t coming close to meeting the need, with far-reaching and dire long-term consequences. As a result, providing buildable, profitable, and affordable new homes is seen by many builders as beyond their grasp at best and at worst, too labor-intensive to make sense.

However, new prototypes are challenging that idea, merging time-honored configurations with up-to-date materials and contemporary design.

1458593290-timbercraft-tiny-home-2The tiny house movement, with its promise of a lightened financial burden and less material encumbrance, has captured the country’s imagination. The 100-to-300-square-foot homes we see in shelter magazines and on design blogs are fun, but their diminutive size makes them unrealistic for many potential homebuyers. The question remains: How to create new homes that are both profitable for builders and within reach for those with modest incomes?

For a long time, the answer lay in the attached townhome, with its lower costs for buyers and better margins for builders. Another solution lies in density. After considerable market research, the development team at KTGY asked: Instead of building 1,600-to-2,100-square-foot homes at five or 10 to the acre, why not build sized-down, single-family detached homes at 10 or more to the acre, ranging from 1,000 to 1,600 square feet and which hold great potential appeal for first-time buyers—an underserved market, to say the least. The homes in turn help create a niche and could help keep builders from losing market share to the resale market.

screen-shot-2016-07-28-at-1-15-43-pmBuilding at density isn’t a new idea. One of the most popular examples, the bungalow court, is thought to have originated in Pasadena, Calif., just after the turn of the 20th century. Soon after, neighborhoods built during the 1920s and 1930s throughout the country followed suit, fitting well within the range of eight to 10 units per acre. Among the various configurations were green courts, auto courts, and alley-loaded garages.

verona-24-range-electricverona-24-range-gasIn compact homes, every inch counts. Increasingly, manufacturers are on the trend, bringing out appliances and fittings that are scaled down, great looking, and hard-working. Fridges, wall ovens, and ranges that measure 24 inches in width, an 18-inch dishwasher, a 4-by-4-foot soaking tub, a 23-by-18-inch freestanding sink vanity, and an elongated toilet use small scale to big advantage.

One manufacturer that is stepping up to the challenge is Verona.

With all the power of a full size professional range, Verona offers a 24 inch gas or electric range that packs a punch for a small space kitchen. The 24 inch gas range provides a versatile selection of both high and low power sealed burners and a turbo electric convection fan that will evenly bake foods up to 25 percent faster than a conventional oven. The 24 inch self cleaning electric range is equipped with four flexible power vitro ceramic elements and a convection oven that takes on the most demanding baking and broiling tasks.
